William C. Putt

Saltillo

William Cleveland Putt, 88, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010, at the Sunshine Rest Home in Pontotoc after an extended illness. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Mayfield Church of Christ.

Services were Thursday, Feb. 25, at The Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Bro. Jerry Grammer and Bro. Don Fox officiating. Burial was in Mayfield Cemetery.

J.T. Graham

Hurricane

John T. ‘J.T.’ Graham, 81, died Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at Darlington Oaks-Community Hospice in Verona. He was a longtime employee of Ram Golf. He loved hunting, fishing and gardening. He attended several churches in the Hurricane Community. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services were Monday, March 1, at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc with Bro. Joe Morse officiating. Burial was in Warren Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Velma Rudell Graham; his sons, J.M. ‘Kenny’ Graham and Roger G. Graham; his grandchildren, Kim Brumley (Terry), Kandy Murdock (Bob) and Tony Graham (Tammie); his great-grandchildren, Josh (Hannah), Wesley and Hunter Brumley, Riley Murdock and Braden, Luke and Connor Graham; and his brothers and sisters, Wilma Waldrop, W. A. ‘Pud’ Graham, Dewayne Graham, Dianne Caples and Lee Graham.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Austin ‘Buck’ Graham and Blanche Hearn Graham; and one brother, Leon Graham.

Pallbearers were Tony Graham, Josh Brumley, Wesley Brumley, Hunter Brumley, Jeremy Graham, Aric Graham, David Waldrop and Ray Garrett.

Honorary pallbearers were Riley Murdock and Michael Caples.

Willa Moore

Amory

Willa J. “Tootsie” Moore, 76, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010, at Gilmore Memorial Hospital in Amory. She was a member of Big Oak Baptist Church for 40 years.

Services were Thursday, Feb. 25, at Senter Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Doug Wilson and Bro. Jackie Gray officiating. Burial was in Keyes Cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Franklin (Jerry) of Oxford; two sons, Dr. Danny Moore (Marilyn) of Fulton and Steve Moore (Selena) of Fulton; a daughter-in-law, Laurie Moore of Fulton; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sue Waddle (Bryson) of Plantersville and Nell Parrish (Carl) of Pontotoc; one sister-in-law, Mary Gillentine of Fulton.

Flossy D. Buggs

Houlka

Flossy D. Buggs, 68, died Monday, Feb. 22, 2010, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo.

Services were Saturday, Feb. 27, at Trinity Outreach Church of God in Christ. Burial was in East County Line Cemetery in Houlka. Westbrooks Funeral Home of Aberdeen was in charge of the arrangements.

Thomas Miller

Blue Mountain

Thomas Houston Miller, 90, died Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at his home. He was a Veteran of World War II, serving as a mortar man with General Patton's 3rd Army.

He was a member of Academy Baptist Church.

Services were Monday, March 1, at McBride Funeral Home in Ripley with Bro. Lyndle Davis and Bro. Danny Rushing officiating. John Haynes delivered the eulogy. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ashland. McBride Funeral Home in Ripley was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Dorothy Lee Horton Miller of Blue Mountain; four daughters, Martha Scholle of Booneville; Ann Stagner (Jimmy) of Blue Mountain; Dianne Throckmorton of New Albany and Arana Lynn Holmes of Blue Mountain; six sons, David Miller (Dee) of Riceville, Tenn., Larry Miller (Carla) of Ripely, Terry Miller (Charlene) of Ripley, David Nolen (Sarah) of Ecru, Ricky Nolen (Wilma) of New Albany and Roger Holmes of Blue Mountain; 24 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Sarah Collins of Hickory Flat and Lottie Lundy of Memphis.

Rebie B. Pickens

Tupelo

Rebie “Ma Dea” Pickens died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born in Pontotoc on March 1, 1925, to Earnest and Nina Mae Thomas. She was a Baptist and a member of Chapel Grove Church in Chesterville.

Services were Saturday, Feb. 27, at Inspirational Community Baptist Church in Tupelo with Dr. Cordell Phillips officiating. Burial was in Porter’s Memorial Cemetery in Tupelo. N.L. Jones & Son Funeral Directors was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include one sister, Adeluer (Allen) Jackson, and a sister-in-law, Mary (Billy) Thomas, both of St. Louis; six sons, Joseph and Earnest Pickens of Miami, Sherry Pickens of Omaha, Gentry Pickens of Sherman, Benny Pickens of Pontotoc and Danny Topp of Tupelo; four daughters, Lillie (Woodrow White) Roberson, Betty Pickens, Linda Brown and Acristal Pickens, all of Tupelo; 29 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren.

Gary Heleniak

Oxford

Graham Garrison “Gary” Heleniak, 45, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, Miss. Born in Memphis, Mr. Heleniak had lived in Lake View, Ark. before moving to Pontotoc, where he grew up and attended school. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 3, at 11 a.m. in the Coleman Funeral Home Chapel with visitation one hour prior to the service. Father Joe Tonos will officiate. Interment will be in the Garden of Memories located at Coleman Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife, Tammy Anne DeAngelo Heleniak of Oxford; one daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Heleniak of Oxford; his parents, Stan and Martha Heleniak of Pontotoc; one brother, Jason (Molly) Heleniak of Columbus, Miss.

William Brookins Jr

Okolona

William Dewey "Dedus" Brookins Jr., 82, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after a brief illness. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Okolona. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.

Services were Saturday, Feb. 27, at the First United Methodist Church in Okolona with the Rev. Bryan Scarborough, the Rev. Bill Harrison and the Rev. Frank Millender officiating. Burial was in Boone's Chapel Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Virginia Jolly Brookins of Okolona; a son, William D. "Brook" Brookins III (Sharon) of Tupelo; a daughter, Jinny "Deedie" Pearson (Mike) of Pontotoc; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Harold Brookins (Shirley) of Panama City, Fla.; a sister, Bobbie Jean Tew of Panama City, Fla.

Cyndi Jaggers

Pontotoc

Cyndi Jaggers, 41, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at her residence in Belzoni. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pontotoc and a pharmacist at Fred's Pharmacy in Belzoni. She was a graduate of Pontotoc High School Class of 1986, Miss ICC and a Star Student in 1988. She was a graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy Class of 1991, where she was a member of the Rho Chi honor society.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Browning Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ken Hester officiating. Burial will follow in the Zion Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her parents, Shelia and A.M. Norwood Jr. of Pontotoc; her brothers, James Chad Jaggers of Pontotoc and Marty Norwood (Nancy) of Starkville; her sister, Anna Furr (Mark) of Pontotoc; her aunts, Deb Spears (Royce), Sherry McKinney (Mike) and Barbara Niemczyk, all of Pontotoc, and Dotsy Williamson (Bobby) of Eupora; her uncle, Bill Stewart (Sherry) of Pontotoc; three nieces, Lauren Furr of Nashville, Callie Jaggers and Claire Jaggers of Jackson, Tenn.; three nephews, Paul Furr of Pontotoc, Art Norwood of Starkville and J.D. Jaggers of Jackson, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her father, Gerald Lane "Bobie" Jaggers; her grandparents, James K. and Janie Jaggers, Wayne and Faye Stewart, and Arthur and Etoyle Norwood; her aunt, Elizabeth Pannell; and her uncle,Kenneth Jaggers.

Pallbearers will be David Owen, Shane Bridgman, Richie Wingo, Sam Stewart, Dickey Austin and Mike Holloway.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Verdia White

Blue Springs

Verdia White, 64, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, in Tupelo. She was born Dec. 15, 1945, in Arkansas to Nathaniel and Martha Trass Heard. She was a homemaker.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Red Hill M.B. Church with Pastor Willie Bogan officiating. Burial will be in Red Hill Cemetery. Lee-Sykes Funeral Home of Columbus is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband of 34 years, John White; two sons, Master Sgt. Stevie Enlow of Florida and Johnny Orr of Georgia; one daughter, Roelane Enlow of Red Hill; one brother, A.D. Heard of Nettleton; one sister, Bernice Moss of Virginia; and her father-in-law, James White of Red Hill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, her mother-in-law and a daughter.

Visitation will be from noon to service time Wednesday at the church.

Doris Smitherman

Pontotoc

Doris Marie “Dot” Smitherman, 79, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at her home in the Harmony community. She was born Nov. 21, 1930 in Lee County to Nola and Charlie Van Buskirk. She worked in a shirt factory, she was a homemaker for many years, and then she worked at the Pontotoc Nutrition Center. She loved to piece quilts, quilt, play cards, and spend time with her family and friends.

Services were Thursday, Feb. 25, at Baldwin-Nowell Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Herndon and Bro. Stark Aldridge officiating. There were no graveside service.

Survivors include Ryan Thompson, who was loved more than a grandson, and his two children, Landen and Lexie Thompson, all of Pontotoc; two sisters, Ann Bently and Syble Roper of Saltillo; several nieces and nephews; and her caregivers, Charlie W. and Joyce Swords, and Janice Clayton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Lloyd Baldwin; her second husband, James Smitherman; three sisters, Mary Duke, Iva Dye and Mildred Davenport; and one brother, J.C. Van Buskirk.

Pallbearers were Charlie W. Swords, Josh Swords, Tracy Clayton, Joey Cruse, Terry Bently and Dayton Bently.

Vincie Walker

Randolph

Vincent Delaine "Vincie" Walker, 48, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at his home in Randolph. He was a devoted husband and loving father. He enjoyed music with his sons and playing his drums. He was an enthusiastic Mississippi State and '49ers fan, and an avid food critic who enjoyed cooking for others.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with Bro. David Hamilton and Bro. Tommy Inmon officiating. Burial will be in Carey Springs Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Christy; sons, Jeremy and Brandon; his mother, Inola Walker; his father, Herron Walker; brother, Tony Walker of Folsom, Calif.; sisters, Rindy Stewart (Tommy), Shelda Waldo and Christi Walker of Tupelo; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and a great-nephew; and his grandmother, Ida Mae Walker Bridgeman.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Orville Walker; his grandfather, Dave Bohanan; and his grandmother, Elsie Bohanan.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Isiah Ratcliff

New Albany

Isiah Lashawn Ratcliff, two months, died Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at his home.

Services were Monday, March 1, at Victory Life Center with Bro. Mark Bishop officiating. Burial was in Mosley Chapel Cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home in New Albany was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his parents, Brenda Thomas and Dexter Ratcliff; his siblings, Makayla Penson, Joidan Ratcliff, Dayza Ratcliff and Malachid Ratcliff; his grandparents, Larry and April Thomas and Linda and Monroe Churchill, all of Pontotoc and Arthur Ratcliff of Brookhaven.

Ollie Dilworth

Amory

Ollie Alford Dilworth, 72, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010, at Lawnwood Medical Center in Fort Pierce, Fla. He was a member of Chism Chapel Holiness Church.

Services were Sunday, Feb. 28, at Freewill Holiness Church with the Rev. Willis Dobbs officiating. Burial was in the Masonic Cemetery. Darden & Sons Funeral Home was charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include three sons, Ollie (Trena) Dilworth Jr. of Shannon, Willie Earl Dilworth of Shannon and Donald (Elaynia) Dilworth of Wren; three daughters, Virginia (Bernard) Smith of Hamilton, Janice (Richard) Martin of Belden and Delois Ann (Kelvin) Randle of Amory; 14 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
