Bob Wright

Tupelo

Robert F. “Bob” Wright, 63, died Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a faithful member of St. Luke United Methodist Church.

Services were Friday, April 16, at St. Luke United Methodist Church with Dr. Rick Brooks officiating. A eulogy was given by Danny Russell. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Brenda Wright; two daughters, Kaci Wright of Tupelo and Kim Benefield (Glen) of Pontotoc; two brothers, Jim Wright (Peggy) of Tupelo and Don Wright (Marilynn) of Saltillo; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildre.,

Jerry Hudson

Hurricane

Thomas Jerry Hudson, 66, died Monday, April 12, 2010, at Darlington Oaks Hospice in Verona. He attended Hurricane High School in Pontotoc County. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1963. He was a Baptist and a retired truck driver. He enjoyed reading and art work.

A memorial service was held Sunday, April 18, at Old Union Church of the Nazarene with Bro. David Westmoreland officiating. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home of Pontotoc was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include three brothers, John Lyle Hudson of Hurricane, Tim L. Hudson of Sherman and David C. Hudson of Pontotoc; a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Orice Hudson, and a sister, Mary Hudson Graham.

Memorials may be made in memory of Thomas Jerry Hudson to Darlington Oaks Hospice in Verona.

Leon Beckley

Leon Beckley died Thursday, April 15, 2010, at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was a native of Pontotoc County. He served in the United States Amry, was a World War II Veteran. He was a member of Inspirational Community Baptist Church in Tupelo.

Services were Tuesday, April 20, at Inspirational Community Baptist Church with Dr. Cordell Phillips officiating. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Ellen Tackett

Ecru

Mary Ellen Tackett, 83, died Sunday, April 11, 2010, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after a long illness. She was a talented seamstress. She was known for her beauty and her warm-hearted manner. She lifted the spirits of all who knew her.

Services were Thursday, April 15, at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with the Rev. Don Wilson officiating. Burial was in New Harmony Cemetery.

Survivors include a daughter, Lynn Tackett; a sister, Alice Brown; two sisters-in-law, Corinna McMillen and Sibyl Tackett; and a brother-in-law, Thurman McMillen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Tackett; two sisters, Clara McKeown and Mavis Leach; a brother, Andrew Turner; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Strawn and Elizabeth Robbins; and a brother-in-law, E.J. Tackett.

Thomas Dewey Pearce Jr., 82, died Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at his residence after an extended illness. He was a member of Auburn Baptist Church.

Services were Thjursday, April 15, at Auburn Baptist Church with Rev. Bob O'Neal and Rev. Jimmy Henry officiating. Burial was in Auburn Cemetery. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Wilma Garner Pearce of Auburn Community; one daughter, Susan Hales (Phillip) of Mooreville; two sons, Donney Pearce (Sherry) of Auburn and David Pearce (Jeanie) of Pontotoc; one sister, Jo Nell Grissom of Tupelo; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Terrance Wayne Webb, 40, died Monday, April 19, 2010, at his home. He was born April 26, 1969, to David Max Webb and Brenda C. McDerrent in Beria, Ohio. He was retired from the Mississippi Forestry Commission, where he worked for 15 years. He lived in Pontotoc County for the past 15 years. He was a member of Toxish Baptist Church in Pontotoc.

Services were Tuesday, April 20, at Mortimer Funeral Home in Pontotoc with Bro. Rusty Miller officiating. Burial was in Ingomar Cemetery.

Survivors include his mother, Brenda C. Stout; one brother, Reid Flint (Penny) of Houlka; one sister, Tina Galloway Potts of Houlka; two nephews, Parker and Adam Flint; two great-nephews, Daykoto Neal, Isaiah Hamilton; two nieces, Brandy Hamilton (Derck) and Amanda Neal (Brad) of Pontotoc; three great-nieces, Adriana Hamilton, Jazmin Hamilton and Kirstin Neal.

Millie Lucius

Houlka

Millie Whitt Lucius, 90, died Sunday, April 11, 2010, at Shearer Richardson Memorial Nursing Home in Okolona. She was born Sept. 23, 1919, in Chickasaw County to Jack Whitt and Viola Burt Whitt. She was the retired owner of Houlka Café and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.

Services were Tuesday, April 13, at Houston Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Bryan officiating. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery in Houlka.

Survivors include her daughter, Sue Gann of Houlka; her brother, Jack Whitt of Caddo, Okla.; her sisters, Dorothy Webster Lewis of Memphis and Annie Mae Colburn of Amory; her granddaughter, Letitia Calabrese and Doug; her grandson, Wayne Gann and Karon; her great-grandchildren, Christine Spikes and Kevin, Tiffany Caswell and Caleb, and Bobby Calabrese; her great-great-grandchildren, Gavin Spikes, Krislynn Caswell and Kalynn Caswell.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Lillian and Ethel; and her stepson, David Lucius.

Pallbearers were Wayne Gann, Doug Calabrese, Kevin Spikes, J.R. Kilgore, Michael Fowler and Keith Robinson.

Lavada E. Tackett

Pontotoc

Lavada E. Tackett, 88, died Monday, April 19, 2010, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Pontotoc after an extended illness. She was born Feb. 28, 1922, to David Duckworth and Sarena Ann Davis Duckworth. She was married to Willie Tackett for many years before his death. She worked as a seamstress at Futorian Furniture for many years before retiring. She was a prayerful woman for her family. She enjoyed quilting and her favorite food, barbecue pizza. While in Graceland Care Center of Pontotoc, she participated in various activities, loved singing and the church services. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Shannon.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Baldwin-Nowell Funeral Home with Bro. Dean Moody and Bro. Robert Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Pontotoc.

She is survived by one daughter, Suzy Collins (Roy) of Shannon; one son, Bobby Tackitt (Diane) of Pontotoc; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; three sons, Shirley, Billy Ray and Jerry Tackett; one granddaughter, Phyllis Tackett; one great-great-grandchild, Colton Tackett; one sister, Bessie Brandon; and one brother, Rufus Duckworth.

Pallbearers will be Kerry Tackitt, Jamie Wilson, Ben Ellis, Jeff Tackitt, Little Jerry Tackitt and Shannon McElwain.

Honorary pallbearers will be Hunter Tackitt, Danny Arnold, Mark Eddington and Corey Tackitt.

Visitation will be from noon to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Londie Ray Ketchum, 67, died Saturday, April 17, 2010, at his home.

Services were Monday, April 19, at McBride Funeral Home Chapel in Ripley with the Rev. Ralph Lambert officiating. Burial was in Liberty Cemetery in Michie. McBride Funeral Home in Ripley was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include one daughter, Londa Vaughn (Rick) of Memphis; three sisters, his twin, Linda Mae Rodgers (Curtis), Letrice Wilbanks (Cleo), both of Ripley and Ann Shappley (Jerry) of Pontotoc; one brother, James "Pete" Ketchum of Ripley; and two granddaughters.

Genie Falkner

Thaxton

Eugenia "Genie" Russell Falkner, 78, died Thursday, April 15, 2010, at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Oxford. She was a graduate of Thaxton High School and the University of Mississippi. She was a retired English teacher. She loved gardening, traveling and reading.

Service were Saturday, April 17, at Bellevue Baptist Church with Rev. John Kramer officiating. Burial followed in the Bellevue Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, Don Falkner; her three daughters, Susan Ward (Larry), Jane Yoe (Eddie) and Betsy Cary (John); her three sons, Paul Falkner (Marina), Pat Falkner (Carla) and Michael Falkner (Penny); her two brothers, Donald Russell (Ann) and Bobby Russell; 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar Russell and Lillian Cole Russell; her sister, Latona Russell; and her brother, Johnnie Russell.

Pallbearers were be Adam Yoe, Jesse Ford, Nick Ford, Ian Cary, Dima Falkner, Reid Russell and Clay Russell.

Roger Bryant Cruse, 60, died Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was a member and deacon of Harmony Baptist Church.

Services were Friday, April 16, at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with Bro. Jerry Caples and Bro. Joe Herndon officiating. Burial was in Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Faye Cruse; one daughter, Meghann McCarver (Brian); a grandson, Max Bryant McCarver; one sister, Bonnie Cruse; three brothers, Neil Cruse (Debbie), Joey Cruse (Vickie) and Jackie Cruse (Kathy); and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edd and Laverne Brown.

He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Cruse, and his mother, Dorothy Cruse.

Pallbearers were Blake Cruse, David Cruse, Rodney Munlin, Jeff Coleman, Ronald Sellers and Tommy Stalnaker.

Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of Harmony Baptist Church and the Pontotoc Spring tool and die shop employees.

Charles William Woods, 58, died Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born July 19, 1951, in Tupelo. He was a 1973 graduate of Mississippi State University. He was a farmer and the co-founder of Robison & Woods Tractor Company of Guntown. He was a member of the Holly Springs First United Methodist Church.

Services were Saturday, April 17, at Holly Springs Funeral Home with Dr. Curtis Ferrell officiating. Burial was in the New Bethlehem Cemetery in Southaven.

Survivors include his wife, Suzie Pegram Woods of Guntown; his mother, Jamie Woods of Holly Springs; his father, Luell L. and Charlotte Woods of Guntown; one son, Brandon L. Hillard of Tupelo; one brother, Bob Woods (Donna) of Holly Springs; a nephew, Robert Woods of Holly Springs; a niece, Emily Hendrix of Hernando.

Anna Catherine McCoy

Anna Catherine McCoy, 20, died suddenly Thursday, April 15, 2010, in Saltillo. She attended The Orchard and East Heights Baptist Church.

Services were Monday, April 19, at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Nathan Fitts and Rep. Steve Holland officiating. Burial was in Lee Memorial Park. Holland Funeral Directors, Tupelo Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her parents, Jimmy “Cotton” and Alison Romito McCoy of Tupelo; grandparents, William and Eileen Romito of Tupelo; sister, Carolyn R. Walters of Tupelo; brother; Jim McCoy (Jennifer) of Houlka.

Jessie Mable Talley Sample, 98, transitioned from this world to the next on April 17, 2010, at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo.

Services were Tuesday, April 20, at W.E. Pegues Funeral Home, 535 Jefferson St. in Tupelo with the Rev. Richard Robbins officiating. She was a Methodists.

She is survived by her daughters, Dorothy Shawhan of Cleveland and Margaret Anne Robbins (Jimmy) of Pontotoc; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Susie Prewett, 86, died Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union County. She was a Baptist and a homemaker.

Services were Wednesday, April 14, at Browning Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with Rev. Kevin Purdon and Rev. Pete Gregory officiating. Burial followed in the West Heights Cemetery.

Survivors include her two daughters, Linda McCowan, and G.E. and Brenda Warren, all of Pontotoc; her brother, Herman Bowling of Pontotoc; three grandsons, Billy Galloway, Marty Warren (Kristy) and Doug Warren (Amanda); six great-grandchildren, Bill and Jake Galloway, and West, Emily, Josie and Kiley Warren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Henry Bowling and Minnie Estelle Crosswhite; her husband, Bill Roe Prewett; her two brothers, William Henry “Buddy” Bowling and Jessie Bowling; her two sisters, Zonia Brown and Lela Mae Bratton; her son-in-law, Lynn Warren; and a grandson, Tony Galloway.

Reta Gillespie Weaver, 79, died Friday, April 16, 2010, at Trace Regional Hospital in Houston. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Woodland.

Services were Sunday, April 18, at Houston Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Brock officiating. Burial followed at Woodland Cemetery in Woodland.

Survivors include her five daughters, Diane (Gene) Griggs of Houston, Elizabeth (Gary) McSperitt of Elk City, Okla., Vickie (Butch) Arledge of Bruce, Barbara (John) Weaver of Woodland and Reta (Tim) Laney of Woodland; one son, Micheal Weaver of Woodland; her sister, Mary Evelyn Andrews of Houlka; her 14 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren.

Edith Henderson

Edith Alta Moon Henderson, 96, died Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at her residence. She was a member of Mantee Baptist Church.

Services were Friday, April 16, at Mantee Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Long and Rev. Marvin "Bo" Farrior officiating. Burial followed in Pisqah Methodist Church Cemetery. Memorial Funeral Home of Houston was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include four daughters, Charlotte Ray, Barbara Harden and husband, Glen, Lou Harrington and husband, Scott, and Betty Greene and husband, Jerry, all of Mantee; one son, Sammy Henderson and wife, Jo Ann, of Belden; one daughter-in-law, Kathryn Henderson of Etta; 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren.

Callie Brazil

Pontotoc

Callie Jean Brazil, 23 months, died Friday, April 16, 2010, at her home. She was born May 20, 2008, to Travis and Nichole Harrington Brazil.

Graveside services were Tuesday, April 20, at Harmony Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Lance officiating. Browning Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her parents; her grandparents, Tammy and Barry Brazil of Walnut and Brenda and Lee Harrington of Aberdeen; her great-grandparents, Lester and Jean Robertson of Pontotoc, Deedy and Sherean Harrington of Aberdeen and Wanda Harrington of Houston; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Waymon Wilder, Charles and Gladys Brazil and Ray and Hazel Littlefield.

Pallbearers were Dane Harrington, Jason Brock, Brad Brewer and Dean Stringer.
